Why would someone want to drive that? What's the point of driving something you can hardly fit into? :p

It's a novelty, isn't it? There used to be various tiny microcars like the Mescherschmitt and the BMW Isetta, but they never became mainstream transport (for obvious reasons). I guess they were competing to see who could make the smallest, and Peel won!

By the time you guys are my age, you'll all be driving things like this, and plugging them into the mains at night to charge up for the next day!

I agree that the Peel cars (see Trident) were a bit of a joke in many respects, but the Messerschmitt, the Heinkel, and the BMW Isetta (note the BMW bit) were all made in serious quantities and were an answer to getting Joe Public off his motor bike and under cover. Try looking up the Brutsch Mopetta if you think the Peel is funny!

It's not just the Germans and the Manx who were mad enought to build such things, look at the Willam, the Bond Minicar and the AC Petite, and finally look at the Rytecraft Scootacar.

Now we have the G-wiz, Lord help us all!
