VJ?

Tail lights make it a 1971-73 VH with a VJ regal grille. Also it is based on a two door hardtop, most probably a Regal but not a Ranger. Very rare car. Shame to see it chopped up and dropped off a cliff

The HU plate would make it first registered in NZ in 1975. It could have come in from Oz when not quite new.

There may have been more than one in the film (that may be the reason for the vh-vj mix n match going on), the HU number plate is still active, so I doubt that car went over the cliff

A lady that lived in my town owned this, not sure if she still does though as she doesnt live here anymore. It does have VJ tail lights as it is now.

hey, interesting site, got sent a link and joined as i am the owner of the snakeskin convertible, thought i would add some info that is wrong in the above comments, they made 3 for the movie, one i think was a dummy car (pushed down the cliff at the end),the one i have was apparently used for the driving shots,i heard when i bought it that the other one was still in storage down the south island, the one i own was actually built from a sedan that has had the rear doors welded shut and shortened with charger doors fitted,so is not built from a hardtop as mentioned above, its a1973 vh ranger wearing a vj front and still has vh tailights, possibly the one mentioned above was actually a vj,dont have any info on the other car.the car is new zealand assembled and is a factory 245 3 speed on the coloumn manual.i bought the car from christchurch approx 3 years ago.it is still on the road and warrented and registered and certified for the roofchop, most recently taken down to whangamata for the beach hop two weeks ago.the car is currently wearing personalised plates SNKSKN.will try and add some pics of it when i got it,not too sure how the process of adding pics to a message go

Very neat - looks as though it should have been a factory offering. Crude screen rail in last thumb.
