Made up police? We don't know where the action is taken.

Strange choice for an American police car, usually these days it's a Crown Vic or Chevy Impala.

In some films they use fictional police departments when the location of the story isn't too specific (some of these films are set in "small town America" or "suburban America" rather than any particular city). Or maybe it's easier than risking offending a regional police department, whereas organsations like the LAPD and NYPD are so large and well known and they've already been depicted in many films before.

Yes I think this is the case; the director made up the city as well, and it comes well with the story I think.

An SUV that is more deserving of serving as a police vehicle?

I do not dislike that car, I wonder why so many hate it. I found it much better looking than things like Buick Rendezvous or Enclave.

It's still pretty ugly, truth be told. When I first saw this film ages ago, I thought "WHAT is that?", it looks like one of those ugly futuristic cars they have in some movies.

When they replaced the black plastics by body-color it improved the style of the car. At first I did not like it, but I find it not so bad after all. I would rather have that one instead of many of the other crossovers/SUVs that I often do not like much.

Indeed, I like the Aztec (the 2002-Onward models) as Pontiac gave the Aztec body-color keyed
bumpers and trim along with optional 5-spoke silver painted alloy wheels. This made the Aztec look
a lot better and gave it a much sportier appearance.

When I first saw a picture of the car, it looked like someone crashed it before the photo. The idea behind it is good, it's just the exeuction that was bad.

Red Grant summarized the Aztek failure perfectly.

Let's hope car manufacterers learn it so that it doesn't happen again.

They had the nicer, newer ones with body colored body work. Very nice.

I would love an Aztek, especially one that has the camping package with the tent and air mattress.

If it's good enough for Heisenberg, it's good enough for me!
