Alexander ◊ 2005-10-18 22:17	If we want to be fairly accurate we have to use the maker. It is not really difficult. Willys, Kaiser and AMC are in a historic line (one being taken over by the next). Hotchkiss is certainly difficult to identify, as it could easily be taken for a Willys MB or Ford GPW. Bantam looks different and I am looking forward to the film in which a Bantam turns up -- I doubt that we will see one. It is not the only group of vehicles were this is important. Just look at Simca/Talbot/Chrysler/Sunbeam 'Avenger', the Datsun or Nissan cars, or the Sherpa van (Leyland, Austin-Morris, Freight-Rover, LTD, DAF). I vote for keeping the real maker and not a virtual one. Please also bear in mind that very many people call everything 4-wheel-drive a 'Jeep'. Even Land-Rovers!!

About Jeep, I'm near agreeing with your point of view Alex till 1971, then we can consider that Jeep Corporation is an independant make from AMC first, then from Chrysler...can't we?...so we could keep JEEP as make (same case than EDSEL (ford) for ex...)

Alexander ◊ 2005-10-18 23:15	Yes, keeping 'Jeep' as a maker is absolutely correct for the modern ones. I will help with the correct labeling of all those Jeeps ... but not all today! PS: The Delahaye was never officially called Jeep but VLR. By that time Jeep was already a trademark. And Delahaye is by far to noble for mud-digging in the Jeep-style.
Alexander ◊ 2005-10-18 23:27	Oh, just a bit of cross-posting -- hope no-one gets confused. The CJ-7 sold in Europe had Renault engines during that time. I have a very faint memory that they were sold as AMC-Renault. Perhaps someone has old brochures of that time. The link came through Industrias Kaiser Argentina S.A. (IKA).

antp ◊ 2005-10-18 23:57	There was also a "jeep" made by Peugeot, at the same time than the Delahaye, but there were only few prototypes I think. (much later they made the P4 which has a really different design than the Jeeps)

4x4peru ◊ 2006-09-22 19:39	Back to the vehicle...it is a CJ5. Short wheelbase, note the indented lip of the rear side rail where the side cover snaps are located. The CJ7 of this period (77-78) also had a more straight-up roll bar mounted slightly futher aft.
