The car pictured is 57453, the second of FOUR buillt after the Aerolith. The first was 57374, the silver-blue one first owned by Victor Rothschild and currently by the Estate of Dr. Peter Williamson, with four owners in between. The present whereabouts of the one in this photo is unknown, presumably dismantled and lost. The next one, 57473, had the rear fenders elongated early on and was later destroyed when hit by a railcar at an unprotected grade crossing near Gien, France. It was twice re-built incorrectly with mostly new parts and is supposedly under restoration again to return it to its original appearance. The fourth and last Atlantic, 57591, is the one originally owned by Richard Pope and now owned by Ralph Lauren, also with four other owners in between. Both 57453 and 57473 were originally painted black. |

The lady about to get into, or having just gotten out of, this Atlantic is Mrs. William Grover Williams, shown with two of her six Scottish Terriers. Her husband was a team driver for Bugatti, so they had frequent use of the this car. Williams later was a WWII hero, whose ultimate fate is still disputed by some. |

Updates on the cars mentioned above. (But first, I must inform ShantJ that the correct spelling is the English spelling, Atlantic. Even in the factory records it was always spelled Atlantic; the French spelling is wrong for these four cars, even though it's correct for the ocean -- if you happen to be writing in French.) 57374 was sold this Spring(2010)for a reported $35 million. 57453 is still missing. 57473 has been re-incarnated for a third time and appeared like a risen Phoenix at Pebble Beach this summer (2010), in the grey-blue it was when demolished in its unfortunate meeting with a railcar in Gien, France. The idea was to recreate as it was on that fateful day. It is highly unlikely that there are any but the smallest bits and pieces of the original car in this re-creation. However, there is no doubt that it is a very gorgeous car, and that Paul Russell and Company did a spectacular job creating it. 57591 is still owned by Ralph Lauren. |

The car is listed as 1935, but according to my info the Atlantic was built during 1936-1938, rather to be listed as 1937+ since the first one (then called Aérolithe) was presented on the London Motor Show of 1936. |
