Wolseley 1500 or Riley 1.5 litre.

I would guess at Wolseley because I think the Riley was calles "One-Point-Five Litre" and the badges don't appear to be that long

Yet again the RAC site says this plate belongs to a recent vehicle:

Vehicle Details for registration number UXT629:

Make MERCEDES
Year of manufacture 1997
Model SPRINTER 312 D MWB
Engine size(CC) 2874

Rileys seemed to have a different handle (or whatever it's called) on the boot to the Wolseley. This car has the same handle as the Wolseley. Am I right or do the links I posted show the wrong models? The badge on the car in the main image looks totally different to either of them (if that grey square thing is actually badge).

G-MANN your links are comparing Mk.I to Mk.II for the rear number plate housing. The exposed boot hinges show this is a Mk.I 1957-1960.

There is some evidence the rear number plate housings were different during the build of Mk.I cars but although I had it some time ago I cannot find conclusive evidence for it now.

The 'grey' rectangle is I believe an added (non-standard) reversing light. Below that I think the Wolseley script could (or would) be visible in the thumbnail?

For me this is the Wolseley.

It's very difficult to see but the badge lettering is below the 'reverse light'. In the link I posted of the Riley, the badge lettering is higher up on the boot lid. I can't find any more pictures through google of the rear of the Riley. Were both cars pretty much identical on the outside?

Differences from the rear or 3/4 rear-side views for Mk.I and Mk.II models....
(Mk.I had external boot hinges)

Riley.... Short chrome strip from centre of headlamp to front doors only.
A second chrome strip from under the glass line starting at the windscreen along the top of the rear wings down through the centre of the rear lights then along the bottom of the boot lid.

Wolseley.... Longer chrome strip at the same height as the headlamps from the 'W' logo along the full length of the car.

Without the second chrome strip along the top of the rear wings and under the boot lid.

The picture in the movie shows it without the second chrome strip under the boot lid.

Wolseley 1500 therefore.

Agree Wolseley. UXT xxx series issued Dec 57- Apr 59, confirming Mk1.

Just to note this is true only for May 60 onwards Mk2 series and later Mk3. First 3 years as Mk1 had this chrome strip stopping above front wheel arch.

I can indeed confirm that UXT 629 was a 1958 Wolseley 1500 Mk1 in Yukon Grey. I bought this car off an old schoolfriend's family in the early 1980's. It had been in their family from new. It had the fairly rare commercial half leather red and cream seat coverings with red carpets. We both lived near Milton Keynes. I got the car roadworthy again and sold it in the mid 1980's to the owner of the shop in the same photo in Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes.
I do hope the car still survives, albeit with a different registration number.

UXT 629 Was my aunt Mable Keyes car, possibly from New, after she was to old to drive my father had it then myself and then my brother. Mable Keyes claim to fame was she was amongst the first policewoman perhaps that is why she had a Wolseley
