This shown Barkas is an original GDR-prisoner's car. It stands in the museum "Gedenkstätte Hohenschönhausen" in East-Berlin. A museum worth to see.

There's a Stasi Barkas in Die Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others). It's disguised as a refrigerated van belonging to a fish distribution enterprise.

Yes, the Stasi had several of these disguised Barkas for the transportation of prisoners. That one with the fish was known, also one with a logo from the store "Kaufhaus Centrum" (the biggest superstore in the GDR) and annother had a logo from the GDR-TV-station.

A former prisoner of that jail has told the story. He works in that museum as a guide. Only the former prisoners are working there. The former keepers and organisators are hating that museum, and they are still making a lot of trouble over there.
These people are still living in the neighbourhod. The whole area in Hohenschönhausen was a secret until 1990, never shown on any town-map.
Go to Hohenschönhausen and ask the people on the street for the way to the museum. You will never get a correct answer.

P.S. This shown Barkas has nowadays no logo, because the organisators of the museum didn't want to make a choice. There've been different logo's on different cars, sometimes the Stasi put new ones on it.
As they know, this Barkas is the last one of these prisoner's cars, which still exists.
