That is a 2004 Dodge Intrepid NASCAR stock car, not a Stratus. It is Casey Mears #41 Target car too.

I thought the Charger NASCAR body has a more pig-like snout?

Theres a lot of confusion, some of the teams are still racing the 2004 Intrepid body. Apparently Dodge is having aerodynamic issues with NASCAR and the new Charger body, Im sticking with the Intrepid on this one.

Casey Mears drives the #42 target car...Reed Sorenson drives the #41 Target car

In 2005 (and 2004) Casey Mears was driving #41 Target car, #42 TEXACO Havoline car was driven by Jamie McMurray.

And that's Intrepid, Charger nose is much uglier. http://www.bvdrangs.com/images/nascar/19Dodge4w.jpg
But must admit, that later Intrepid nose looked, to be honest, more like the one on Stratus.

Technically, these things are replicas. The bodies and chassis for the cars are hand made and do not come from the factory. They are purpose built race cars that are required to fit a set of templates provided by NASCAR so that they merely 'look' like the car they are supposed to represent. The term 'stock car' is a laugh, there is nothing stock about these things.

Stratus has never been used as a body by Nascar...Wrenchhead: Best desciption of the joke we call Nascar Ive ever heard. Theyve lost the meaning behind "win on sunday, sell on monday"

Nascar is so boring. What they should do is go buy cars straight from the dealership and race them. Can you imagine a bunch of stock Taurus, Intrepids, and Monte Carlos racing around? Better yet, say there are no rules and they're allowed to take each other out. Part demo derby, part racing. Now that's entertainment!

I remember they used to do that sort of thing but can't remember what they called it. The track was a figure 8 - had some good wrecks.

That is how the sport started and I think it should have stayed that way. It led to some interesting cars - the Plymouth Superbird was developed specifically for NASCAR racing. Now they all look like gumdrops.

The word commonly used in French for that is "stock car", but I know that in US-English it is not that.
In UK-English there is "Banger Racing" and some other kind of races, but I think that Junkman will be able to help us about that ;)

I did a google search and found this site http://www.nofearracing.com/ I guess they just call it Figure 8 racing. The track is like an 8 with a crossing in the center. N.O.F.E.A.R. stands for National Organization of Figure Eight Automobile Racing. I guess there are folks that still do it.

I like Demolition Durby's best. NASCAR is quite boring, I've got to agree with qwerty on this one, it would rock if they introduced muscle cars into the sport.

Yeah, the IMDB board is filled with a lot of mudslinging.

Yes, I've heard of Banger racing. It's like a race and a demo deerby in one. We need that in the US. NASCAR has also seemed to be getting more commercialized. Back when it was introduced, it was anti-establishment! It was basically moonshine runners testing each other's skills. They didn't have ovals. They used dirt back roads. And pretty much everyone watches NASCAR for the crashes anyways, so why not make it legal?
