I'm afraid the 280 SL wasn't sold in the US, only the models with a bigger engine... |

Matthias, please post only links, or eventually thumbnail images (to keep pages not too long, and not too heavy) About the car, it is one of the "bigger" versions of the 280SL, R107; C107 if this is a coupé but this one looks more like a convertible with hardtop. -- Last edit: 2007-07-21 00:50:49 |

I agree. It's one of the reasons that if I ever bought one,I'd get a Grey Market one....funny thing is,most people I know don't understand my dislike for those bumpers ("They don't look right"...."They ruin the way it looks",etc) except for the ones who've been overseas, who agree!!! |

Hopefully you will find one. During the 90ies and also nowadays with the weak US-$ a plenty of these Mercedes, also many Porsches, VW Karmann Ghia, Austin Healey and Volvo 1800 were exported back zo Europe. Over here you can see a lot of (higher priced) classic cars in US-versions. No joke, nowadays are in Germany more Porsche 356 in traffic than ever before, many more in the 60ies. All re-imported ones from the U.S. |

I've seen a couple of US-spec MGs driving around London (with UK number plates). One was even converted to right hand drive. |

Yes, surely, also many British classic cars were brought back to Europe from the U.S., not only Big Healeys. On some oldtimer-meetings over here, more than 50% of classic British roadsters are U.S.-versions. -- Last edit: 2007-12-02 15:43:10 |

Agreed on the bumpers, but I still think U.S. spec BMW bumpers look better. BTW, there are Americans who convert the cars to Euro bumpers...it's not a hard fix. -- Last edit: 2007-12-02 15:49:31 |

Okay, not so much on the 2002, but on certain models. The E28 immediately comes to mind. I just don\'t like the \"overbite\" look of the Euro bumpers. |
