The van is not an Acadiane but a 2CV AK 400, introduced in July 1970 older than September 1974 (still round headlights). Probably a French import, because the license plate is above the rear soors, Dutch models had the plate on the left door. |

And the other car is a Volkswagen K70. Very rare, nowadays, because they had even more problems with rust than Citroëns had... The black striping indicates the 100 bhp LS version of 1973+, if I remember it well. |

@DynaMike: yes, annother K 70. You're correct, it's the K 70 LS special model with the black stripe on the side, built form Mai to july 1973. It was the first edition with the 100hp-engine. |

@DynaMike: it's not true, that a K 70 rusts more than Citroens. i know that, because i own a 1973 VW K 70. Citroen and Fiat are the worst rusting cars. You can see it very good on the following link: http://www.icmesa.com/tinhunter/Houthalen/THAHouthalen.htm The cars on each square area of that yard were put there for the same time. Naturally, after the years all of them were totally gone - but you could see very well, that some cars were more destroyed than others. Citroens and Fiats were at the top with that. It's shame, that this scrapyard dosn't exist any more since the year 2000. I've seen it in 1999, it was unbelievable. |

Nice to hear that you've got a K70: I think it's a very good looking and elegant car. Clean lines and good proportions. NSU did a good job, and Volkswagen as well when they decided to bring the model out as a Volkswagen. Marvellous pictures of the scrapyard, thanks! From what I've seen I think the Renault Dauphine is realy great Luckily ours is in a better condition (no rust at all). Until recently there was still a nice K70 driving around in Amsterdam, it was yellow-gold coloured. But it's the only one I've seen for years. Maybe the rust problem was bigger in Holland because of the masses of salt on the streets during winter... |

Hmm, I remember one goldmetallic K 70 in Amsterdam. Until ca two years ago one it was running there. I don't know the part of the town, but the owner has lived in the street "Overtoom". He went to Spain and the car was sold to Monnickendam. You can see it in the "AutoKampioen" no.25/26 18.Dec.1998. P.S.Probably DIEHARD as a Citroen-GS-fan owns that Kampioen-issue. They compare a K 70 with a GS. -- Last edit: 2007-07-17 02:08:50 |

Yes indeed, the K70 was usually parked at Overtoom, a busy street that leads from the centre of the city to the western part. Nice to hear it's still around, I'll have a look in Monnickendam soon. And thanks Garco, that you have given this rare car it's own page. |
