VLW was London series with G (Aug 68 to July 69) or M (April - June 74). |

Not recognised as the average LD ambulance etc but after looking for examples with divided windscreen, I think now its a one piece windscreen and there is a support post beside the driver's seat. I'm thinking Bedford CA MkII or MkIII but not certain. |

Bedford gave the clue - VLW 688G - 1969 Bedford CALV Ambulance by Lomas built as London Transport Service Vehicle (vehicle 1532B) at Chiswick depot, sold off in 1985. LT apparently had 2 of these - the other was vehicle 1492B (SMK 783F), new in May 1968 and based at Aldenham until also sold off in 1985, now owned by the London Bus Preservation Trust. Both survive. |

CALV is the standard factory built van, this should be CALZ - CA long wheelbase chassis-scuttle intended to be bodied by outside builders. edit: Just to add I'm a bit surprised I managed to guess this and for dsl to confirm it so quickly. The small area seen of the dash panel in the thumbnail, registered with me for some reason, that it could be a CA van -- Last edit: 2018-06-08 13:53:43 |

This scene was the reenactment of the death of Norman Scott's friend, Gwen Parry-Jones who was found dead in the bedroom of the house that Scott and Parry-Jones shared at Tal-y-bont in Ceredigion, North Wales in March 1972. Parry-Jones was a middle-aged widow who was the village post-mistress who met Scott in the early 1970s and allowed him to stay in her cottage. When Parry-Jones heard Scott's story, she contacted the Liberal Member of Parliament for Montgomeryshire, Emlyn Hooson as she was a friend of Hooson's father and convinced Scott to tell Hooson and when Scott told Hooson, Hooson was unsure of Scott's story. After the meeting, Scott and Parry-Jones' relationship started to break down. Two weeks later, Scott heard the Parry-Jones' aunt was trying to get in contact with Parry-Jones but had no response, when the local police entered Parry-Jones' cottage, they broke down the bedroom door and found Parry-Jones dead on the bed. Parry-Jones' body was badly decomposed as the cottage's central heating was on, it was determined by the local coroner that Parry-Jones died from alcohol poisoning. -- Last edit: 2023-12-29 09:57:26 |
