It looks like a VW, but it seems that it is a Peterbilt logo on the grille |

Oui, if it was VW, it would be a L80. VW still produces trucks - in Brazil. So: :??: |

It certainly is a Volkswagen LT cab, but VW never produced chassis of that size. They had a collaboration with MAN which produced the MAN VW 8.150, a 7.5 t truck. A facelifted version is still being built in Mexico. Link to "www.camionesvw.com.mx" As Mexico is not too far away from Hollywood, this will be it. The Peterbilt badge is probably only for the US viewers, for whom VW is a synonym for a small bettle shaped car. Peterbilt on the other hand is a very well known truck maker, belonging to the Paccar Group, which has no connections to VW. |

That's a Volkwagen truck! |

It's strange, why they would badge a VW truck as a Peterbilt. Why not take directly a truck sold in US if they wanted something that looks like a US truck |

The LT series were a little smaller than the L series. LT are the bigger delivery vans like MB/Dodge Sprinter. L are the VW trucks. After MAN left the joint-venture, the trucks were named L-something only. As much as I know, Brazil is the only country where VW has a bigger share of the truck market. The VW LT series looks a little different than the L. See the links: MAN-VW G90: Link to "lkw-infos.net" VW L80: Link to "lkw-infos.net" VW LT55: Link to "lkw-infos.net" So, from outside, it's not much more than the badge on the grille... -- Last edit: 2005-09-20 01:56:09 |

Maybe it ain't the L80, because it's the denomination of the brazilian VW truck in Europe, but, the Peterbilt badge on the truck is too strange See ya! []'s |

Here's the deal: Peterbuilt and other companies used the VW cab (and perhaps more of the VW) to build small 'city' trucks in the Eighties in the States. I recall seeing Kenworth badged units, too. My brother drove one for work for a while. The cabs were from Brazil, but we never looked deeper to see where the VW ended and the Peterbuilt or Kenworth began. As an aside, we now have MB Sprinters badged for Chrysler and Freightliner (as well as others with the stock MB logo). -- Last edit: 2006-04-11 07:36:03 |

Peterbilt is correct after all. As 'vdubs-r-us' said they used the 'Volkswagen do Brazil' cab for their smaller trucks. Here is a link to one on sale: http://www.mclaintrucks.com/1990_Peterbuilt_Reffer.ivnu 'Reffer' is not the name of the truck but a misspelled 'reefer', which is another word for 'refrigerated truck'. |

Shouldn't this be: Origin Brazil? Or Built in Brazil? |
◊ 2008-05-19 13:14 |
Built in Brazil maybe, but the cab beging VW LT it has still some German basis I guess (not much, maybe) |

The Kenworth companies, used the VW cab, and they also used the cab of a DAF tractor to make their K500 Heavy Tractors http://timstrucks.web.aplus.net/timkw.htm |

Yeah, in fact, the Peterbilt/ VW's were nicknamed "Peter Rabbits". |

another "Peter Rabbit" park 2 side by side and you'll have a parking lot full before you know it. |

I saw something similar to this. What I saw looked like an Isuzu Elf (or something similar) only it had the grill and logo of an International, can anyone tell me what I saw was called? |
-- ◊ 2012-10-16 18:58 |
Maybe you are referring to the International Citystar which has a slightly modified Mazda Titan cab. |
