What is it with all the box-Panther Colony Parks in '80s-set period pieces? Mike's mom in Stranger Things and Adam's mom in The Goldbergs have them too. I could see it if they were all Chevy Celebrity or Chrysler K-Car wagons, but Colony Parks barely register on my memory from that era and even Ford Country Squires weren't common.

I think this is because a) the series' creators/producers are no car enthusiasts and have hence b) a broader concept of what American cars looked like in the 1980s, i.e. they don't think of individual car models. Apparently, they associate the 1980s with boxy full-size cars from the downsizing era in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Also, these have survived at a higher rate than the smaller wagons.
