Going off to shoot peasants on the moors. DGR 262 = Sunderland, early 1954. Martin Walter Utilecon or similar?? Ordinary van later |

Not the normal Martin Walter window design. |

Oh, what a giveaway! Did you hear that? |

The voice-over said grouse shooting, but that was the normal coded euphemism in the 1950s. |

Take no notice of him Lateef, the film was made in 1956, there would be no peasants left by now, and there were still plenty about the last time I went shooting. (Clay pigeons only, I am not the world's best shot, and I would not like to leave a bird or animal wounded.) |

Yes, but I think you mean pheasants, not peasants - there's a "small" difference |

"King Otto of Bavaria – who ‘ruled’ from 1886 to 1913, and was quite mad – is reputed to have exercised his right to shoot one peasant every day. Luckily for Bavaria’s peasants, his attendants gave him pistols loaded with blanks and dressed up as peasants, playing dead whenever he ‘shot’ them." (see entry for Friday May 29). |

https://www.sundaypost.com/in10/food/secret-recipe-magic-mealtimes/ It's all part of dsl's underground class war, but I have to tell you that Baxter's Royal Game Soup has lost something of the original piquancy it possessed since they have been forced to remove the peasant from the recipe. |
