Well, the side profile and rear look remarkably similar to Beijing BJ750. It could be one of the earlier/later stages of development. |

I thought so, however it's less expensive car with different design & much smaller dimensions. |

Erik from China Motor Vehicle Documentation Centre wrote an e-mail: "The registration is from Beijing (31-15942) and is from the same period as the Beijing BJ750, which is made between 1974 and 1981. The side profile reminds of the BJ750 (from which I have pictures of 4 different versions), but the car is slightly different: indicators under the bumper, a strip on the side, different side profiles, rear view mirrors extremely to the front on the wings, bumper in unique shape. There seems to be two white and a blue model(?). To me it looks like a Beijing product, very similar to the BJ750 but with minor differences. Maybe made in another Beijing factory in the same period. The logo is unclear but unlike the BJ750 logo (bigger). It is possible that these cars were new when they were used in the film “Ying”, in that case they are made around 1978/1979." |

Erik from the CMVDC has made a positive identification for this car. Here's what he found out: "I found a photo showing the car (earlier), registration this time 01-18870. And the text on the photo is: Beijing Municipality Second Car Corporation. This company, which we call Beijing Second Auto Works had started in 1965 as Beijing Erligou Auto Works, was later called Beijing Light Automobile Co. Ltd. It was famous for the BJ130 2ton truck which was made for many years and copied all over China. I never knew they have made some car prototypes. The identification is quite certain. The name Beijing also, I don’t know the model name, but BJ740 is a good guess. The earlier registration suggests 1972 or 1973." |
