No, it's an Opel. The Manta was never badged as a Vauxhall. |

There was a Vauxhall Cavalier Coupe with the same body, no? |

There was indeed, based on the Mk1 Cavalier: Link to "www.mamut.com" Quite a rarity, even in the late '70s/early '80s. |

The Cavalier Coupe and Sporthatch were made until around 1980, they were always the chrome bumper version. Opel continued, developing with the plastic bumper/bodykit versions, selling well as the GTE and GT/J specification etc. You can tell the difference from the front panel: Cavalier did not have the single slits (on early cars) or double slits (later) as on the Opel. Opel Mantas were always favoured in the UK and sold well, but in the shadows of the more successful Capri competitor. There was no bad feeling towards Opel as sixcyl suggests it was still seen as a good GM product, just like buying a Vauxhall Astra GTE etc. This is a circa 1984 Opel Manta GTE. |
