One question:

Did ever the entry model 280 SE/C (without the V8) recieve the lower and wider grille?

(No W108 or W109 had this lower and wider grille).

@zodiac, yes there is evidence for 1970 6cyl 280 SE "Flachkühler" but it seems to be quite rare

Interesting question. In terms of cars sold in UK there was complete replacement of 280 SE/C in Nov 69 by the V8 versions. My UK book
[Image: mercbook.jpg]
implies in text that only the V8s got the new lower wider grille, with the non-V8 continuing unchanged alongside. But Andrepa's links seem to overturn this, so that new grille was used across all coupes/cabrios.

It also gives production figures for 280 SE W111 coupe/cabrio (combined) as:
1967 - 280 SE 67
1968 - 280 SE 1950
1969 - 280 SE 2501, 280 SE 3.5 176
1970 - 280 SE 613, 280 SE 3.5 3300
1971 - 280 SE 68, 280 SE 3.5 1026
Total - 280 SE 5187, 280 SE 3.5 4502

Taking the 70-71 figures and assuming these were all wide grilles, there were 5007 cars - 681 sixes (13.6%) and 4326 V8s (86.4%).

I'm not sure one can take the 1967 280 SE models very seriously as they were only pre production models, as the ordinary production of the /8 started in January 1968.
The pre production cars were usually used for tests and most were probably demolished soon after.
