Discussion archived (link above), as it is clearly a Chevrolet from the new pictures

It’s a 2500HD (heavy duty) in base LS trim level.

It may or may not have the optional G80 Eaton locking rear differential with automatic differential lock. As far as I know, these trucks did not get electronic traction control. I don’t even think the current model trucks have electronic traction control (I could be wrong on that though)

Seems to be fitted with an aftermarket trailer hitch which is very visible. The factory trailer hitch is designed for a low-profile appearance and is well hidden.

The 2500HD's came with the G80 in it. They were optional on the 1/2-ton model. The rear axle shown in one of the photos posted above appears to be the 11.5" FF rear. I don't think this truck was a Diesel, so if it is indeed a gas model, it would have a 8.1 Vortec. The 6.0 Vortec only came with a 10.5" FF rear.

8.1L is 496 cubic inches. I drove a '02 G3500 with the 8.1 at work. Extreme power.

I agree. In the behind the scenes footage, the beginning of the chase scene starts off and we get a decent audio note of the engine. Definitely a gasoline engine, not a Duramax, and it most likely is the 8.1, due to what you described.
