Christoflp ◊ 2006-07-12 23:06	Just to comment on Callhan's remark, the only reason that the AMC was used in the film was that it was the only car available at the time that weighed the exact amount for the infamous barrel roll jump to work. The producers were not keen on it, but it was the only car that made the stunt possible...

gliffhanger ◊ 2007-01-19 12:45	A 1974 Hornet X is featured in the James Bond movie; The Man with the Golden Gun. 007 commandeers the car from a makeshift Bangkok, Thailand AMC dealership to chase the bad guy. In the film, the Hornet was used to perform a spiral jump, just as the Astro Spiral Javelin stunt car performed that same jump in AMC sponsored thrill shows in the Houston Astrodome, wherein Gremlins and Hornets also were used to drive around in circles on their side two wheels in the arena. This Hornet stunt car is preserved in a James Bond museum with other famous James Bond cars.

Knoxzilla ◊ 2007-09-12 23:29	Very specifically, it's a matador red 1974 AMC Hornet X two door hatchback with a 360 V8 and a floor mounted automatic transmission. It's also got the dealer installed 14x6 inch Cragar S/S wheels and seemingly stock tires. I wouldn't be surprised it was fully equipped either, EON productions tend to buy top of the line cars for James Bond to drive.
Kevin8or ◊ 2008-01-01 16:50	THE GUY WHO DID THE STUNT WAS PART OF A STUNT SHOW THAT WENT AROUND TO COUNTY FAIRS. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DO THE STUNT AT THE WAYNE COUNTY FAIR IN NC WHEN I WAS A KID, BUT HE HAD CRASHED A FEW DAYS BEFORE AND THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH ROOM AT THE WAYNE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS. AT THE COUNTY FAIRS HE DID IT IN A JAVELIN WITH A 232. IN THE MOVIE, HE USED A SPECIALLY MODIFIED HORNET HATCHBACK. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS THE BEST CAR STUNT IN A MOVIE--EVER! THE ONLY ONE THAT COMES CLOSE IS THE ROCKET PROPELLED TRANS-AM IN HOOPER. MANY CAN ARGUE OTHERWISE, BUT THIS CAR KEPT ROLLING AFTER THE STUNT. MOST OF THE DUKE BOYS STUNTS ENDED IN THE TOTAL DEMOLISTION OF SOME PRECIOUS DETROIT IRON. I NEVER ATTEPMTED THIS STUNT, BUT I DID JUMP A RAILROAD TRACK AT 90 MILES PER HOUR IN MY 1978 CONCORD HATCHBACK WHICH IS A VERY SIMILAR CAR. THESE HATCHBACKS WERE WONDERFUL CARS.

Many people knock them now, though, just because the company that built them isn't around anymore, so it's easy to talk smack about them.
