It was the racing version of the Europa, with Ford Cosworth twin cam 1600cc instead of Europa's 1470cc Renault 16 engine. Reasonably successful for works team in GT racing in 1967-68, and led to a fascinating model set by Spark (S0299) of the 1968 Silverstone entry on a trailer pulled by a GLTL-liveried Mini-Moke with a Barton fibreglass body. I didn't believe this would actually work until I found a reference that the Moke had been given a 1275 Cooper S engine by the Longbridge workshop instead of the usual 848cc. If anyone is tempted to get hold of the set, it is superb but sodding expensive now and beware that the trailer is unbelievably fragile - if you look at it too hard the coupling snaps. |
