The car was an unrestored survivor and belonged to a friend that would take it to car shows occasionally. It had very little rust and was well taken care of but needed a restoration as the interior needed attention, the paint was chalky and there were a few primer spots. It ran great and was in very good condition for its age with very desirable and rare options. A transportation guy with the studio contacted the owner to use it in "Mena" which became "American Made". They used 3 Gremlins in that movie. They were insistent on purchasing the car as opposed to renting it so they could change stuff on the car and not be liable for the changes. They had to restore it to match the other Gremlins. He also said after it was restored he would be able to buy it back in a few months at the same price but in restored condition. That sounds to good too be true, doesn't it? It was and it's too bad he didn't get that in writing. A wrecker showed up with a check and no writen agreement. He trusted the guy and the result was not good. Unfortunately they refused to sell it back and informed him the car was destroyed. Nasty words were exchanged and they quit taking his calls and never sold him the car back. Later they listed all the left over Gremlin parts for sale and another AMC enthusiasts bought all the stuff and saw the 3 Gremlins used. One was restored, one was crushed to look blown up and this 74 was stripped and blasted into the air. The one blasted into the air was confirmed to be the same car. It was a sad end for a nice car. Some of the parts made there way into some of my Gremlins and the engine is still chugging along in a friends Gremlin. It's a shame though, this car was way too nice to destroy. You don't find Levis Gremlin's like this very often. It was also confirmed that this car is the same car in Stranger Things. It's a small world and everyone down here knows someone that works for the studio. Does anyone know what the cars final fate was? -- Last edit: 2022-05-20 03:08:56
