Well then I must be one of them. I recently bought a new wide 19" display and the pictures look good. Maybe I've watched these pictures too long. Ratio of movie is 16:9 and I divided the height of the picture by 1.25. I don't know what to do anymore. |

I also had a problem getting the ratio right when I started until Antp gave me these guidelines: New wide screen = 2.35:1 Some Older wide stuff =1.85:1 TV = 1.66:1 real old stuff = 1.38:1 that really helped me. These pics have a ratio of 1.95:1 (762x343 pixels) too tall. They look OK at 2.35:1 (672x285 pixels) Edit: OOPS I made a typo - real old stuff should be 1:33:1 -- Last edit: 2007-04-06 17:36:39 |

Actually 1.66 is for recent series or some TV-movies. Older TV stuff uses 1.33 I do not think that 1.38 is standard  I think that most of the widescreen DVDs use 1.77 (16:9) including black borders. So if you capture from DVD and have black borders, you can most of the time resize to 1.77 and then cut the borders, if you do not want to worry about the right format - I haven't tested that, though. The size error on these pictures is not so visible at first. If you take vehicle_98404-Volkswagen-1200.html vehicle_10145-Cadillac-Series-62-1954.html they may seem somewhat right, but a Cadillac should really be long actually.
