Still some unknowns on this page that need identifying. |
◊ 2012-09-05 23:22 |
Yeah there's definitely a yellow Porsche 356 coupe seen briefly in one of the cruising scenes. |

Is it me or G-MANN current pics look better (sharper, better tones) than mike962's new HD ones? |
◊ 2013-06-13 20:28 |
The HD images seem too un-sharp to me, indeed. |
◊ 2013-06-13 20:29 |
well you can downsize them, at least they look brighter and I added the timing for vehicles |
◊ 2013-06-13 20:34 |
They'd look worse even if resized, IMHO. But time tags could be added, of course. |

seems you can blame the studio according to this review http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/3911/americangraffiti.html -- Last edit: 2013-06-13 20:36:46 |

They still look more sharp than the DVD images to me. DVD images which were made using PowerDVD and its color correction, hence why the colors of these look much more vivid (but not especially correct) giving the impression than the current pics are better. |

so shopuld I continue offering repalcement s or just the time of pics ? |
◊ 2013-06-17 16:34 |
The replacement could stay in the comments anyway in case someone wants a higher definition of the pic. I do not know if we should replace them or not. To me they could be replaced but some might prefer the DVD ones. |
◊ 2013-06-18 08:54 |
well I won't provide anymore replacement if people prefer the old ones BUT at least add the time tags |
◊ 2013-06-18 09:27 |
^You can manually add saturation to match old colors.) |

The tone is because of the colour setting I used to use on PowerDVD (first Vivid, then I switched to "CyberLink Eagle Vision" in 2009) I used to think it looked better than the standard setting but I've stopped using it now. |

Universal really loves making car movies, don't they? -- Last edit: 2018-08-25 03:46:43 |

https://www.hagerty.com/media/archived/american-graffiti-deuce-coupe/ "Unrestorable: American Graffiti Deuce Couple" by Paul Duchene, dated 11 May 2016 is about the fate of many of these cars. Many of these stories have happy endings but the red '51 Mercury, for example, is said to be rusting away in a junkyard at last report. |

"There are Pharaohs Car Clubs in just about every state," according to the New Albany [Mississippi] Gazette, "and the organization started in Modesto, Calif., in 1948." Link to "www.djournal.com" According to this article of June 11, 2020, the organization was founded by World War II veterans, and thus uses military ranks. This article, however, states that American Graffiti was filmed in, rather than being set in, Modesto, California. |

This pic shows an inaccuracy; it's a late 60s Impala I think. Definitely not accurate for the movie taking place in 1962. Anyone want to take a crack at identifying? (I'm talking about the brown car) (another shot below) -- Last edit: 2020-08-13 21:41:07 |

It is, listed above as a 1967 Caprice. |

Which one is this - the middle one? I can't find it listed. -- Last edit: 2020-12-25 10:39:58 |

I'd say it helps to be an American to get a proper kick out of this movie which I think is a textbook example of a you-had-to-have-been-there kind of a movie. Nice cars, though, and the music's great. But Charles Martin Smith's character drove me nuts. Thank goodness for the ffw button... Anyway, all main pics are HD-sourced now. I wanted to use the 4K source, but I can't make that overcomplicated HRD shit look good no matter what I try, so I used the VC-1 source instead. It may be grainier than 4K, but it's still superior to the oversaturated original pics. Note: the 1961 Lincoln Continental was for some reason listed twice, with identical image, once in SD and once in HD. I took the liberty of deleting the SD one. I also adjusted the ratings of three cars. Meanwhile, what's the burgundy coupé in the middle here: And the car on the left here: |

I watched it again last night for the first time since the '70s or '80s, seems like it never got a lot of TV play after then, you still can't watch it for free on YouTube, I finally found a video I could watch for free. |
