The effect is real enough, and it's definitely got a cool-sounding name, but doubt that many people actually bought the story that Mandela had died in prison before becoming president, so that part is pretty much hogwash to me. The Berenstain Bears is a better example and I think Berenstain effect could work except I can never seem to remember the correct spelling thanks to this theory. I have my on experience with this effect. A few years back I was listening to the song "Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet and I instantly became aggravated as the drumming intro sounded all wrong. I had listened to the song over and over in my teenage years and I was convinced that it was supposed to sound different. Thinking that there was an alternate take / cover version that I had listened to all those years ago, I spent a long time searching for what I thought was the correct version, to no avail. It was only recently that I realised why I was wrong; I had thought about the intro of a completely different song, "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina & the Waves. |
