I was thinking about what you said about everything else being boring (in film and TV besides the era you like). Don't you think you're being stubborn and pretentious? Characters like Hannibal Lecter or a serial killer that uses the seven deadly sins in Se7en leave characters in your era in the dust. And Jurassic Park for example? Nothing in your era has this kind of adventure using literally the best possible locations in the world in Hawaii. Are you taking these for granted now that they've been added to the site for so long? I miss when you added more recent contributions.

No I do not. It's my choice. I seriously don't care about action and adventure when it comes to what I like to add to the site. Of course, I like to watch contemporary movies and shows with good plotlines like everyone else, and more-so than this "ancient stuff", but when I do, I get to enjoy it free of the obligation that I need or want to add the cars. That part I leave to the next guy. Call me a hypocrite or whatever, but at the end of the day I do this because it's what I want to do.

I don't usually get into conversations about topics outside of cars, but I want to support what Lateef says. I also really enjoy modern movies, in fact 90% of the movies I watch at home are movies from the 90s onwards. But this is not imdb, but imcdb. The central theme for me is the cars that appear in the movie, not so much the movie. I've watched several 50's Japanese movies without understanding a word just to find rare cars. That's why I think that when Lateef says boring, I understand that today's cars are boring. Of course this is something very personal, but you can see a Ford Focus or a Mini on the street every day. However, cars from the 50s are impossible to see on the street. It is true that there are modern movies set in the 40s, 50s etc... but personally they don't attract me that much because they don't have the real environment in which these cars moved... that's why in the new movies they appear with rare old cars like those of normal use in the streets... It is not what was in reality... I hope I have expressed well what I think... What a roll that I have released

Have you have ever seen "Lost Horizon," or "Only Angels Have Wings?" Adventure is hardly a new concept in film, and older movies in many cases did it better.

Someone like midnight should ease into the 50s with the top rated movies like 12 Angry Men. That's full of reviews like "It was in b&w so I was afraid, but..."

You think you have problems? (Addressed to all not personally) I shall be 74 this year. My physical abilities are failing, I am finally admitting to myself that my Bentley has to go as I am unable to manage heavy physical work necessary for the rolling rebuild. Racing my boat is becoming a thing of the past. I find almost every facet of the modern world in total opposition to the way in which I was brought up to behave. Modern popular culture stinks, from the heavy reliance upon sexual innuendo (sometimes not innuendo but action), to the yowling and thumping of the so called accompanying “music”. The government is talking about wrecking the BBC, no doubt my beloved Radio 4 will be amongst the casualties. The just post WW2 world in which I grew up, more like the 1930s than the 1950s, is now separated from today by a massive chasm of change, in behaviour and attitudes.

No doubt you will all be saying “just another old bloke moaning”, but, a warning for your futures, antibiotics are becoming useless due to the bacteria developing resistance, war, and a possible worldwide financial collapse loom in Eastern Europe, politeness and charm are disappearing everywhere.

Get ready for it.

The conservatism of the fifties was a brief reaction to WW-II but you had the same cultural collapse before 1930, which began with the Enlightenment and is playing out today.
Also 74 is not old.

I do appreciate that 74 is not old, but it can feel like it when you are lying on a concrete floor wrestling with a recalcitrant bolt.
