About eighteen months after Out of the Past, Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer are paired again. But though the story is written by the same Daniel Mainwaring, this early Don Siegel's movie doesn't play in the same league than Jacques Tourneur's great noir.

Actually, it doesn't even play the same sport: here we are chiefly in comedy. The noirish elements are there to justify an almost one hour long chase equipped with witty lines between the two leads, and funny moments.

Neverthless, the acme is tough and rough…

… but with a smile. A faux-noir, vous dis-je!

William Bendix is playing as nuts as ever

Patric Knowles (Fiske), John Qualen (Seton)

are fine supports,

and Ramon Navarro and Don Alvarado, the couple of cops, bring the couleur locale element with great mastery and fun.

About the color, this black and white is somptuously cinematographied by Harry J. Wild,

… and the Mexican location gives many wonderful frames.

Excellent film !

You, er… you may find that I gave too many one-star vehicles but it was such a treat to pick in this good copy of this very good movie… Besides, I left aside this charming little pick-up truck, behind Patric Knowles and Jane Greer at 00:12:25:

A last word for tonight: I recommend the quotations of Don Siegel's words, like you can read them here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0796923/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm

I think it's Fargo, which fits with the MoPar-style grille.

So if this movie was shot in Mexico,...
is this road (for the '34 Buick on "46 Buick Roadmaster chase)
part of the Carrera Panamericana route??

As a side note, Holden has to push the stick up to get going,
so I think the '46 is a Hydromatic.

A '34 Buick is probably a 3 spd stick.
