Too true - either [a] because the singer/band only did 3 or 4 really good tracks in their career (eg at random Wings are a good example) so you get 75% crap or somebody like Bachman Turner Overdrive (1 stunningly good track, but after that.... )[b] they never did any good tracks in their career - anyone for The Best of Sade or Duran Duran?? [c] when I make up my best of CDs, they rarely share more than 50% of the tracks with the official one. Best Of CDs are only for people who can't be bothered. -- Last edit: 2011-06-15 21:18:42 |

a) You would be stupid to buy 3 or 4 records to get these single good songs. On a "Best of"-sampler you'll have them all and pay only once. b) the most apart thing, Duran Duran has made, was IMHO the clip of "Girls on Film". I mean not the "making of"-version, which ws played at MTV, when MTV still was a music-TV-station. c) IMHO for people, who dislike to waste money, space in their record-boards and time for changing the records every few minutes, for a plenty of boring stuff which only includes one good song each. -- Last edit: 2011-06-15 21:44:21 |

Ad. b). I like "Rio" (the LP) of Duran Duran, but maybe it is some "faux pas"? Tell me, better to know. ![]() |

@weasel - it's a definite faux pas. Try some early Alice Cooper instead. @ingo - cheer up - you've had a lucky escape. Try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlMjmqjNFis to get your smile back. |

I've always quite liked Duran Duran. Sade I'll give you though. 'Smooth Operator' was a song I seemed to hear everywhere I went at one stage. Annoyed me no end. Same thing happened with Lady Gaga's Poker Face to such an extent that I contemplated cutting off my ears. And don't get me started on that... |

@dsl Alice Cooper I like too, but has to be early indeed, like "Hello hooray". -- Last edit: 2011-06-15 22:34:43 |

@weasel - exactly. And Elected http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35jduPLIgBI and most other tracks on Billion $ Babies. I always liked this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AADQpKCi5to for the throw-away piano ending. |

Yes this two I know too. How about Sparks of the same period/similar genre? |

Sparks - never quite floated my boat, but enjoyed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tbkw1UdJGIk&feature=related. Only a short step after that to Roxy Music - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2IISm3Nxyk and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44QZGGhQYLE&feature=related . From there to Slade http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Zc47TUcWQA , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1A5pWg2rtNc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxcJjItHECY . After that - T Rex, Mott The Hoople, Sweet, or more Slade?? If you can find it there are some superb clips of Noddy Holder playing solo acoustic versions of Slade hits in the 1990s |
