Six part BBC TV series broadcast in late 1983 from novel of same name by Tom Keene and Brian Haynes Link to "www.amazon.co.uk" , which was inspired by the sinking of the Humber trawler Gaul in 1974 in mysterious circumstances http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FV_Gaul , although neither the book or the film claim to give any authentic explanation for the tragedy. Series released briefly on VHS, and then disappeared. Haunting intro theme tune by June Tabor, which apparently she hated and refused to agree to any re-issue of the song or the series. Filmed in Birmingham, Hull, Grimsby docks, London (all UK) and Svolvaer on the Lofoten Islands (Norway - some helicopter shots only in ep1, and then extended sequences in eps 5 and 6).

Update - original source was VHS transfer so quality not great - updated March 2014 from new DVD release.

All entries and pictures now upgraded and a few new postings from DVD released Nov 2013 - the first proper release for nearly 30 years, and it's still a gripping story. Aspect ratio on DVD is odd format - claimed as 4:3 on case but looks too tall onscreen. 16:10 seems to give best results, but may be slightly flat on some ep1&2 captures.
