It was believed that Andrew "Benji" Veniamin was the gunman, Veniamin himself was later shot and killed in the later stages of Melbourne Gangland War by Domenic "Mick" Gatto at La Porcella Restaurant in Carlton, Victoria on the morning of the 23rd March 2004, Gatto was later acquitted of Veniamin's murder on the grounds of self-defense.
