I know it looks awfully wrong and I'm sorry for adding but I couldn't help myself not to do it. The car was seen much better in theatrical version but is still noticeable on DVDs and Blu-Rays. An urban legend said that it was Morris Minor, Jackson's favorite car, but it was later deemed unlikely as it wasn't intentional easter egg. I've found a screenshot on the net, I'm sorry for it. I will upload a new one from a DVD soon (only have a working DVD-Rom on laptop while now I'm on PC). A prooflink: http://www.slipups.com/items/20403.html -- Last edit: 2014-01-08 17:33:32 (antp) |

That's interesting. But I don't think that it would deserve a page here (even with HD picture) |

I know, i know... Still, the rules state that "Examples of "interesting" may include: [...] Is an anachronism (car newer than the time frame of the movie)."... |

Yes, but the car must be visible (and identifiable) anyhow |

I'm working on this. Probably there must be a few glimpses, on which car is more visible... |

Could be a US-spec VW RHobbit? Or a Lambogandalfini? |

Could the Rhobbit be a Frodoor? |

Indeed, so I moved the pic to the first comment. Even if it does not deserve a vehicle page, it is still worth to mention that here on the movie page -- Last edit: 2014-01-08 17:34:30 |

antp, thanks for not deleting a page. Well, I've found a video which kind of explains, it's from theatrical version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOg5x1uMMe4 The main thing that makes it visible is the windshield (painfully visible as it reflects). While they've tried to delete this from a DVD it's still, partially visible ina few single frames, plus many people point out that apart from chimney smoke (many mistake this fro car goof and think that others mistake chimney for a car!) there's a dust cloud that could only be made by a car on that speed. I've also watched my old DVD of the movie and screencapped it, will add the screenshots soon. -- Last edit: 2014-01-08 18:45:05 |

Is there any evidence at all that this is a vehicle? It could be just sunlight glinting on the camera lens. This is probably an urban legend like that ghost that was supposed to be in 3 Men and a Baby (but less interesting) -- Last edit: 2014-01-08 18:40:57 |

I like urban legends, yes. The evidence is that apart from windshield there's a visible dust cloud just before it cuts back. Jackson's commentaries are, in fact controversial in that - he clearly said about "bloody windshield", but in later DVD commentaries he stated that he never seen a car itself. Well, that's probably, because car is not that visible, while reflection pretty much is. |

I'd say the dust cloud is more likely to be smoke from the hobbits' chimneys. That comment by Peter Jackson is interesting, but watching that clip I'm thinking if there was a car there it would surely be too far away for the reflection off the windscreen to be that noticable? |

It's a little bit higher then chimney, don't concentrate on it and you'll see. Windshield sunlight first appears in the trees, then moves from right to left and is painfully obvious for a second or more. Downloaded a footage from theatrical version from YouTube to do a few screenshots. You should really do that, or see video in a full-screen mode. It's high unlikely it's something other then a car, because when the shining appears it's very clear how it moves. On these screenshots it's noticeable as a white dot, clearly seen on the heels. In the video it really moves, though. In fact, it's really a car. Unlikely that a truck, more of a sedan or something like that. Color ranges from red to black. Here are screenshots from DVD (letterboxed, sorry) for comparison. They did a good job on fixing the goof, but a little cloud still appears. -- Last edit: 2014-01-08 20:09:22 |

Well, there was cars in the Behind-the-Scenes documentary. Here are a lot of photos of the cars in here. The FOTR documentary. The TTTW documentary. -- Last edit: 2022-02-06 03:07:15 |
