Liked the movie, and the looks of the "futuristic" cars. Minimalistic and cool.

The thing I found weird about this movie is it's not "futuristic" at all.

I mean... com' on. The year is 2048, we have set up colonies in Mars and stuff, but 1)we are still using cars that burn gas 2)we are still using CRT non flat screens 3)you need half the space of a suitcase to transfer a portable computer, and that kind stuff.

Any writer should have put a "video wall" TV (if not 3D projectors), cars that don't burn gas and have no exhaust pipe (if not flying cars), ultra thin portable devices. Just watch back the 2nd episode of "back to the future" (which is supposed to take place earlier than this film), and you ll get what I mean...

Colour flat screens weren't available in 1990, so the producers would have had to choose between using real CRT monitors or adding the displays to the shot with optical effects. They probably decided that it wasn't worth adding more work to the visual effects schedule just to have flat screens.

By the way, Total Recall was filmed in Mexico. The subway scenes were filmed on the Mexico City metro, which uses the French rubber tyre system.

The should have! A great deal of making a science fiction movie is using optical effects to "emulate" the technology (you reckon) people are going to be using the date the movie is supposed to take place. So, the people that made this movie reckoned display technology is going to stay still to non-flat CRT monitors and automotive gas-powered vechicles. This is rather way too much pessimistic, as we can clearly see now (we may not have gone beyond gas powered cars, but we all have flat displays, right?). This is what's niggling me.

A four-wheeled R.Q. Riley Trimuter also appears in the movie: Link to "www.techeblog.com" As the name suggests, the Trimuter was a three-wheeler, and this four-wheeler may have been a one-off.
