Question to our Chinese-reading friends: is this the right title frame?

… Anyway. This is a Patrick Tam's movie. This Patrick Tam is said to have been the mentor of Wong Kar-Wei. And this movie is said to be very difficult to get, nowadays. I had 'in hand' some sort of VHS copy, p&s, with Mandarin and English 'hard-subs'.

The movie is set (and maybe filmed) in Taiwan. It's a sad story, we know it at the very beginning since the narrator (or narratress) recalls and tells us, from the cell where she is jailed, her last months. She has been bought-married, raped-beaten by her old husband. And then she met a man on the run (Simon Yam)…

Cher character's is played by Yip Chuen-chan —or Yeh Chuan-Chen, I'm not very fixed— in a very very er… inert way. In tone with the needs of the story, though.

Well, let's call this an exercice de style in miserabilism and we'll do the job.

The musical score is nothing more than atrocious, the filming a tad precious and mannierist.

Yes, you're right. In cantonese it sounds like 'Syut Choi Siu', also called 'The Burning Rain'. One of the movies I still have to watch.

Though the music is very weak (and unfortunately rather unescapable) and that the director uses sometimes slow-motion, for very few good reasons, it is quite watchable, and the story is conveniently told. In my very very humble opinion, cela va sans dire.

The problem is to find a copy, I think.
