Though we have a very mixed carpark in Holland, I don't think this is set here The Skoda 1203 was never sold in Holland, I've never seen the van in the first thumbnial above, and also in Holland cars kept their licenseplate when the ended up on the scrapyard, whereas here all cars are without plates. Could it be in Finland??

Edit: @Ingo. I think there is a VW K70 on the second thumbnail of the scrapyard...

First picture from the scrapyard is really... cool. :D I don't care about the 125p, but what the hell FSM Syrena 105 is doing there  - I've never heard about the export of this car, but seems existed.

Quote from IMDB:
Filming locations for
Bulle & das Mädchen, Der (1985)
... Aachen, North Rhine - Westphalia, Germany
Cologne, North Rhine - Westphalia, Germany
Hauptbahnhof, Cologne, North Rhine - Westphalia, Germany

I like the Finland suggestion, though; there do seem to be a disproportionate number of Eastern European cars. I can see - in addition to the Syrena - a Trabbi, several Wartburgs and a brace of Škoda MB1000s or similar. As well as a Triumph 1300 and something that could just be the rear end of an Anglia estate ...
(Edit) Make that three Škodas, I've just looked at the other thumbnail.

Well if some country imported 'eastern' cars it is not a suprise that such place is full of them. :D I think also Denmark is possible.

:/ What about Austria? It is a very strange mélange of cars from Western and Eastern Europe and from Japan )Mazda 818, 2x Toyota Corolla) Would be interesting to have a drawing of this pic and the cars numbered, Alexander ;) Sorry, I've no idea how to make such a work of art...

@DynaMike: yes,it's K 70 on the right, thanks for the tip.

Ingo DE

I gues, it's more Finland than Austria. The vegetations of the pic of the Skoda 1203 looks more "nordic"

Anyways, it's definetely no in any Eastern country, even not in Hungaria, where you could find more Western cars. In Eastern Europe cars were never thown on the scrapyard so easily, than in the West. So i nthe GDR real scrapyards were unknown, because no GDR-citizen has thrown his broken car away.

The van on the first scrapyard-pic, what's it, a Fiat or so?

Yes, due to the mixture, I think Finland is most probably. It's definetely not in Western Germany, also it doens't look like Holland or Belgium.

A propos Belgium: I think, I have posted that link before: http://www.icmesa.com/tinhunter/Houthalen/THAHouthalen.htm
Unfortunately this place was cleared off in 2000. I'm very lucky to have seen it in Summer 1999. Unbelievable.

In the early 90ies the scrapyards in Germany, also in the West, were overflooded with Eastern cars. I remember mountains with hundreds of Wartburgs and Trabants, even older ones from the 50ies. Also the GDR-Skodas were mostly crushed at that time. Also a lot of Ladas, but Ladas were often bought by the left over Red Army-soldiers and exported to Russia.

@Weasel: in the 80ies, before the wall felt down, you could find Skodas and Ladas on West German scrapyards. Usualy they were the youngest and completest cars, you could find at that times.

Sorry I don't want to be suspected about the nationalism, but actually the car #34, the Syrena :D is a clue - it generally wasn't exported or even if was it is possible that only to one/two countries, If I only would find any info about it. :/

@Ingo - Also in this part of Europe as I believe were quite different cars on the scrapyards. Before 1989 there was a small one close to our home, where for example I had my 'initiation' with the green-matte-rusted Citroen DS/ID at the age of 4.
Anyway I agree it is not filmed in any socialistic country, even not in Yugoslavia (there isn't any Z600/750).
Why not Denmark? :p Or maybe Norway. Raul1983 said that some of these cars weren't available in Finland, same like in the Netherlands.

Sorry, I forgot some, and I agree in most cases with Alexander. But #6 seems to be a 2-door sedan... #14 I was mistaken. #16 very interesting. #19 R5 for sure. #22 240 for sure. #25a seems to have holes for the bigger headlights: [W111]. #37 Toyota Corolla

I will try:
7. Wartburg 353

10. Wartburg 353 Tourist
...
13. Lada 2106 (rather not 2103)
...
15. Opel Kadett?
...
19. I think R5

21. Seems a Fiat 128 Familiare
...
26. Skoda 100/110
27. Another Skoda 100/110
...
29. Wartburg 353
...
31. Skoda 100/110

33. Is indeed an escort Mk. I or R12/Dacia?
...
37. Something British?

41. I also think about Simca
...

Having seen the new thumbnails by Ralph (there is also a Sunbeam 1250 and a GAZ Volga) #37 is not a Corolla but a Ford Cortina Mk.II. The "Klinische Anstalten" would fit to the Austria-option...

Alexander DE

I will start to edit my entry with all the makes and models you found. Then we get a complete listing further up.

Ralph DE

26: it is't a 02
imo a Skoda 100/110 , Triumph Dolomit, Glas 1004 ..

Alexander DE

2007-10-06 00:47

With the help of Ralph's extra pictures we might identify the missing cars:

White car on first small picture is No.5
White car on second small picture is No.9
The blue car (nose down on top of R16) on small pictures 7 and 8 gets the new number 34a and is an Opel Rekord [B]. Also 31a (light blue) and 33 look identical and are more like Ford Taunus 12M [P6]. Car No.37 is more likely a Volkswagen K70 ... or am I seeing things?

Alexander DE

2007-10-06 00:59

On the additional small pictures we see a Peugeot 404 Break, a Ford Escort Mk.I Van, a Citroën DS and a Renault 16.

In the list, I'd go for:

11- Citroen C35 or Fiat 242

37- Ford Cortina 1967+

41- Simca 1301/1501 rather than 1300/1500

Hrmphh, it's hard, really hard to find out the location(s)

The logo "Klinische Anstalten" is German made in the style of the late 50ies. The traffic-signs and the traffic-lamps around the doorway are German made, too - but it is not in Germany. At first, as Ralph have said, we don't have yellow stripes on the roads (except in road-work-areas), the typical white/black-pylons on the side are missing, too. The red/white pylons, you can see on the last pic, are not usual in Germany and, finally, the old house on that pic 8on the right, where the lady comes out), is not build in German style. The windows are in the German style from around 1900 to the WW II, but the decoration-stones around the windows are not like here.

Hmm, perhaps Austria would come as closest.

32. Reminds a Lada 2101/Fiat 124 or another PF 125p

Alexander DE

2007-10-06 14:05

I agree that the junkyard has an Austrian touch to it. The small picture with the yellow road markings is not in Germany. Also the overhead power lines show that.

But the houses could be German (although I must say that I don't know about Austrian building styles). The red and white poles were widely used in the 1980s in Germany and the decoration stones around the windows are not unfamiliar to me.

Gag Halfrunt UK

2007-10-06 14:07

The IMDB says this was a West German-Austrian co-production, which strongly suggests that some of it was filmed in Austria.

Ingo DE

2007-10-06 14:19

@Alexander: yes, the decoration-stones around the windows were (still are) popular in Germany - but the style of these shown stones is not German. Hard to explain (I'm not an architect), but the small edges of these stone at the sides and the top are not German.

Am ehesten also Österreich.

-- Last edit: 2007-10-06 14:20:01

Alexander DE

2007-10-06 15:05

@all the others: We are just talking about the houses.

Don't worry, Chris. Identifying small background cars is fine. They just shouldn't get a separate page if too small or nothing special. This kind of 'car-park-image' is great! Especially this image, as it shows what kind of cars were used in the Vienna area in the 1970s. ('Vienna area', as the Austrian company involved in this film is the 'Neue Studio Film GmbH' from Vienna and I cannot see any mountains)

Exactly! Comments are made for that: discussions about the cars of the movie. It is also a good idea to use these for such images, containing lots of small cars that can be fun to identify but that most of the time do not deserve dedicated pages.
