Excellent whimsical film - a bit of a fairy story. The main village location is Pennan, north of Aberdeen; the phone box was moved a short distance for filming to put it on the sea wall so they could create dramatic seascapes within camera angles and then moved back afterwards and is still there with a Listed Building preservation order after its film role. The pub scenes were filmed inside the village hotel/pub, across from the phone-box. A dramatic place to visit - as many of these Aberdeenshire fishing villages are - with a very steep road down to the village from the cliff-top. A lot of tourists in the summer - often Japanese - because of the film. The beach scenes, apparently round the corner from the village, were filmed at Arisaig and Morar on the west coast of Scotland. |
