Dunkirk "street" scenes were filmed in grimsby...the "beach" scenes were filmed at Redcar..extras were paid £50 per day for appearing.

It actually is, I am quite sure, an Avro Lancester (maiden flight 1941, introduced 1942).

The Short Stirling (maiden flight 1939, introduced 1941) has differently shaped wings and shorter engine bays, the Handley Page Halifax (maiden flight 1939, introduced 1940) has a longer nose.
An anachronism all the same. In 1935 there were no four-engined planes active in Britain, civil or military, except biplanes and seaplanes.


The ambulance in above small images is an Austin K2/Y 2 ton 4x2 Heavy Ambulance (1939-45).

The 6x4 Morris commercials used in atonement were original. there were 3 in total,the crane was original and not a prop.

Also 16 fake M/C 15cwt trucks were built. 9 were built near Carlisle and 7 in Southampton.
the name of the guys who built them are on the film credits under vehicle constuction.
6 Trucks survived the filming the rest were destroyed as they were badly burned.
