I haven't seen this film, but sure would love to! I read on the Rotten Tomatoes film review site that this movie was the main inspiration for one of my all-time favourite movies; 'Dazed and Confused' (1993). I was reading all of the arcgived comments, and I've got to say, Firebird86, your childhood sounded awesome! Oh, and I'm not sure if he's rading this now, but Explorer4x4, I'm sure '57 Plymouth Sport Coupes could reach faster speeds then 120 mph, especially with some work here and there! (Like many Muscle and Pony cars) ;)

It's a shame that in the UK kids can only afford cheap, crappy Euro hatchbacks and used Rovers. A couple of days agoI saw a Porsche 924 (or 928/944) for sale at £450. A bargain, being nearly 20 years old! The problem is, that even though cars can be bought for a steal in Britian (at a car sales I saw a Ford Probe going for £375), yet insurence rates are through the roof!

@leoz: to avoid these problems, a good idea would be to organize a garage at first. And it's better for the car, too.

The best choise would be to live in a better statued neighbourhood, without rough and ugly people. ;)

I know, that it maybe sounds arrogant or racistic, but for me it was the most important point, when we had looked for a house last year. And for the apartment, I was living in before, too.

I'm still living at home with my folks at the moment. I'm nearly 17 and attend college. I get £30 a week from my EMA (Education Maintainence allowance), of which my folks give me £5 a day to spend on food, even though I'm never hungry. Therefore, I more or less keep the $30 every week and pile it on top of my savings. The last time I checked it several months ago was £500. Still, my folks are putting towards driving lessons, at least.

Yes, I know, that you are young, I just mean, that it's better to consider before buying a car, especially the first own car.

I've done it in the same way as you, saving pocket money for the first own car. But this was not enough. I could reach it with the money, I got from a job in the month between ending school and starting the military services. To get a garage was easy - I took my father's. Without asking him before. I said "Sorry, but I never liked your 1981' Passat. It has no extras and an ugly colour. My orange K 70 (17 years old at that time) is a superb classic car, so it's worth to keep covered". :D

We have a garage, in fact there's a smaller driveway between it and the house, behind gates and suitable for a car. I could always cover a vehicle up with a car cover, though. I have no idea where to start looking for a job, but would rather drive to one everyday rather than take the bus like I do to college. Many of my friends went out and bought scooters as soon as they turned 16. I always say they're better than the bus, but an actual car beats a two-wheeled sowing machine any day. :)
