First released as a stand-alone film (44 minutes) in 1972, it became the first part of trilogy of autobiographical dramas about growing up in absolute poverty in miserable Scottish mining village (Newcraighall, near Edinburgh). Part 2 was My Ain Folk (1973) and final part My Way Home (1978). Also known as the Bill Douglas Trilogy and now always shown together and packaged on one DVD. Note the imdb page for My Childhood has confused overspill of My Ain Folk info and details, although basic info is correct.

My Childhood is loosely set in 1945 around end of WW2

but gets itself in a bit of a mess with a German air-raid (a few years too late). Also the vehicles are too new for 1945, so in most cases not clearly shown. Film is relentless grim misery - much praised by critics, but didn't float my boat.
