Thanks BeanBandit for the link ! The Bullit chase scene is classic stuff ! I know one other chase scene which is equally good. It's in the movie "The Seven-Ups" (1973) 1973 Pontiac Ventura against 1973 Pontiac Grand Ville ! The chase scene lasts maybe 3-4 minutes. movie_70672-The-Seven-Ups.html Someone really should add cars to this film ! |

Let's be serious... Bullitt is of course the right spelling. FYI : Bullit Racing (with one "t") is the name of a little french company established in Verquières (France, Bouches-du-Rhône) which is specialised in tuning and preparation of Mustangs (or other muscle cars) often dedicated to the race (www.bullit-racing.com) |

Another little trivia bit about 'Wild' Bill Hickman (driver of the Bullitt Charger) was that he was in the car (station wagon) behind James Dean's Porsche on that fateful day (Sept. 30,1955) and pulled James out of the wrecked car. Before the trip he asked Jimmy if he wanted him to drive the Porsche and James refused. Bill passed away in 1986 at age 65. |

Another little trivia bit - the sound of the Mustang was dubbed from that of a GT40.... |
|
◊ 2007-06-10 07:22 |
"Another little trivia bit - the sound of the Mustang was dubbed from that of a GT40...." Only during the high speed scenes. You can hear the Stang's real exhaust sound during the cat and mouse leading up to the chase and during other scenes in the movie where he's just cruising around. It sounded pretty good on it's own without the dubbing! |

In this overview I'm missing the green VW Beetle that's right in the middle of the chase scene, when both cars are going down the hill. Because the chase scene is edited in such way, that all the different camera shots together make the chase seem much longer than it actually was, this green beetle is seen passing through the scene 3 times in 3 different camera viewpoints and at 3 different moments in the chase scene |

I'm sure that during the chase-scene, he changes up seven times - must watch that movie again I think.... The driver of the Charger during the chase was (at the time) a real racing-driver and not an actor, unfortunately his name escapes me right now though a quick google will no doubt reveal it. Did you know that Ford (UK) during the mid 60's built a Transit van onto the 'chassis' of a GT40? Later versions had a mid-engined Ford-Cosworth DFV F1 engine, and the latest has a 2.0 litre engine from the Ford Focus.... Come on Ford, if you're going to make a display van, do something serious, that thing was beaten on the track by a standard French car! |

There's an Aston Martin DBS on the right in the Hotel Approach when Rennick goes to pick up his 'message'. There's some other nice expensive machinery in there too, I think there's an E-Type obscured by the railings. V. |

I'm new to the IMCDB. It looks great and I have already enjoyed looking at so many different movie cars. Regarding Bullitt, one of the greatest car chase movies ever made, there is an interesting site about the filming locations, made by Mr. Ray Smith. (http://www.rjsmith.com/bullitt-locations.html) I'm sure many of you already know about this site, but if you have not been to this site, please do. You will enjoy it. |

The black one on the right is a 1960-1961 Ford Falcon Ranchero. Does anyone know what the light-colored station wagon on the left is? |
|
◊ 2008-03-31 04:57 |
The station wagon is a 1963/64 Plymouth Valiant. |

Seems there was another "Big Healy" (3000) in the chase sequence, around the time the guy laid down his BSA bike. That one was British Racing Green, wasn't it? |
|
◊ 2008-12-24 18:37 |
That green Beetle should get a 2 star since it kept popping up, wasn't it a camera mans car aswell? Kinda coincedental since a camera man for Top Gear used an old bug for their Africa trip and he was the one that had minimal trouble. |

Looks like there will be no remake of the movie "Bullitt" with Brad Pitt. They will make a biopic about Steve McQueen, so maybe only a little part of the movie will focus on the "Bullitt" movie. Found this in the TopGear news: Posted by TopGear - May 12, 2009|11:09 am Brad Pitt will play Steve McQueen in the long-awaiting biopic of the legendary King of Cool, according to Hollywood sources. The more masculine half of Brangelina is expected to sign onto the film this week, and will begin filming the life story of the hard-livin', fast-drivin' actor later this year, with the film due to be released in 2010. Mr. McQueen is something of a legend round Top Gear HQ - in fact, we'd say our devotion to him borders on mild obsession - so this news has got us talking. Is Pitt the right man for the job? We'll concede that the star of films like Fight Club and his Oscar nominated role in Benjamin Button at least has the right credentials: irritatingly handsome, with a penchant for glamorous women and even more glamorous cars. We can't imagine Pitt will be complaining too much about having to drive McQueen's roster of classic cars, including the 1956 Jaguar XKSS, 1957 Porsche Speedster and 1963 Ferrari 250GT Berlinetta. But has he got the sheer goddamn cool to 'do' McQueen? We hope so. |

There is another Valiant very early in the movie. Just after the Taxi leaves the hotel, and the street-car goes down the hill, a white 1962 2-door is seen parked on the side of the street. I'm sure it's a 1962 because of the round tail lights. 1960 and 1961 Valiants had oval tail lights set into the "fins" that projected out of the rear fenders. |
