“Today the Estonian broadcasting network announced that it has made a deal with KCTV, who has bought the broadcasting rights for Õnne 13, one of Estonia's most popular TV shows.
North Korean TV is very koreacentric. The few footage from the West usually shows flags of Western countries burned at demonstrations or soccer matches where the goals of the opposing team have been cut out. Now this changes.

‘KCTV appreciates classic Estonian television series and the Koreans especially like the first seasons,’ confirms KCTV representative Kwak Jung Wook. “We searched all over the world to find a show that adequatly showed our people how hard life is after letting go of Communism.’

The series was chosen by Kwak due to it showing the Estonians lost in spiritual darkness, the dark sides of the fight against capitalism and the downfall of a democratic system. It is shown in North Korea with the expert explanations of the local producers. “Only the development of Allan and Mare’s relationship over the years could prove to be too complicated for a simple North Korean,” says Wook. The series is shown in black and white as to not scare away viewers.

According to Wook the series will be called 행운 4 in North Korea, which means Luck Street 4. “In Estonia the number 13 may be an unlucky number, but in Korea it is the number 4. So that the people see how bad life can be, we need to stress that in the series’ title,’ says Wook.

The adequacy of the series for the Korean people had to judged and approved by Kim Jong Un, who was very satisfied with a test screening of it.”
