 The IMDB doesn't list any locations, but this was filmed in the self-governing Kurdish region in northern Iraq.

I went to a screening at the London Film Festival (IIRC), and the director, Bahman Ghobadi, did a question and answer session. He said that the US soldiers and vehicles in the film are real, and he just asked officers for permission to film them. No need to get the script approved by the Pentagon. :)
