 I have been around long enough to remember an early use of the word on British tv by Kenneth Tynan, on an evening satirical show. A great furore arose, partly orchestrated by Mary Whitehouse, a woman whose aura resembled that of Margaret Thatcher with all the good bits removed (specially for dsl).

Not one of my favourite words, generally used by people whose brainpower and vocabulary lack depth, and definitely “pas devant les enfants”, as my Godmother used to say.

Naah, being offended is not the main problem, it's their proclivity to want to "educate" (= terrorize) the others.
I react on such people generally quite aggressively.
And I deliberately use non-pc-correct terms, even in the public. Not offensive low-class-typical rude abusive words, but non-compliant non-pc-adequate words.
For example "Neger" for a black person (@rtsbusman1997: no, it's not the same rude meaning as "Nigger" - which is the point to become angry), "Zigeuner" for gypsies and "Ostzone" for East Germany, the former DDR-areas.

P.S. And I am never gendering my speech. No idea, how it's in other languages, but in Germany we have a problem with feminists, who want to "feminize" the German language. Then I go really ballistic, nearly as heavyly, when someone try to defend the DDR.
