Pierre Fresnay
[Image: vlcsnap-2013-08-21-17h53m19s112.jpg]
un film de Denys de la Patellière (who passed away on last July).

Classical drama with Brigitte Auber and Maurice Ronet.

And two American cars… a must have for the French bourgeoisie in the 50's, it seems.

A Cadillac, very far and uncomplete, and two other pieces of cars in the background aside, the film is complete.

Ten years after, alors que je revois le film, je me sens obligé de dire que la partition de René Cloërec est très belle, et que Pierre Fresnay, Jacques Dacqmine, Georges Descrières, Alain Quercy, François Guérin et Yolande Laffon, et Léo Joannon !, tiennent fort bien leur part aux côtés du couple Auber-Ronet (déjà vu comme tel dans Rendez-vous de Juillet), dans cette adaptation d'un roman de Michel de Saint-Pierre qui écrira pour l'écran une suite, Les nouveaux aristocrates.

It was a very beautiful and dramatic picture, with a tiny little 4CV in the upper right corner…

This, actually:

Maybe ... as an early-teenage petrolhead I visited relations in the banlieue in 1953, and my impression was that most of the Yank tanks were either diplomatic or had red TT (duty-free) plates. I seem to remember that at some point in the 50s the French government imposed swingeing taxation on cars over 2 litres, meaning you had to be very rich to run one.
