Fairly pedestrian account of Britain before the 1951 festival; the last film directed by Humphrey Jennings before his death in 1950, so date is correct. Lots of trains and boats and planes, but strangely only one imcdb vehicle.

Lots of atmospheric pictures:

Derelict WW2 radar sttation at Beachy Head - now long gone, probably fallen into the sea

And - sadly - this has been the last film from all these 1930-50s documentaries on my DVD box sets. Bit of an anticlimax really, but it was an interesting journey.

Thanks for these, cars from the 30s, similarly ancient buses and trucks, steam trains, cricket, I even recognise Kennington Oval just above.

All I need now is a blonde and a Bentley and life would be complete.

Oops! The blonde [Image: 39yearscropped4.jpg] is in the conservatory phoning a friend, and the Bentley is in the shed.

PS this is another film which talked about turbines as "turbins".

Engine, Turbine, seems logical.
