9 minute report by British Transport Films on the need to replace Sheffield's desperately antiquated goods/freight rail infrastructure - the third in a series of (eventually) 14 Modernisation reports on various topics produced by BTF for British Railways. Not on imdb (although they have an entry for the Fifth Report on Modernisation (1965) and some of the other Reports with just their subsidiary titles), and not on any of the BTF/BFi DVD compilations sets I've found so far. But it has been commercially released on Marsden Rail 30: Sheffield And North Derbyshire DVD and there's an excellent quality posting here. It's also a predecessor film to Freight and a City, 1966 from one of the BTF/BFi DVD collections. However this page suggests it may have originally been a 20 minute film with further features on the new flyover at Rugby, modern signalling on the Southern Region, and passenger amenities at Plymouth. If anyone's interested, this seems a comprehensive list of all BTF releases on DVD - http://nicwhe8.freehostia.com/btf/dvd/dvd.html -- Last edit: 2018-01-16 19:47:40 |

Interesting find dsl! Also seen at about 00:08:06 a British Railways forward control truck (5-ton?). First thought was a Karrier Bantam but details don't match. Cannot think what it could be. Edit: Its a Thames ET6 - therefore not forward control, something is either covering or distorting the appearance of the front. Slightly cropped from YouTube. Also two tiny images of white trucks I think. Hardly worth mentioning except I cannot place them. Seen in the background of the Dennis Horla scene. -- Last edit: 2018-01-07 20:19:51 |
